The Danube Cycle Route is among the most beautiful cycling routes in Europe. The Austrian section is about 380 kilometres in length, running between the city of Passau in Germany and the Slovakian capital, Bratislava.

Exploring Europes rivers by bike

The stretch runs almost entirely on dedicated bike paths right beside the scenic river. You can stop at Linz (European Capital of Culture in 2009), to discover modern art and architecture. The World Heritage listed Wachau with its castles, abbeys and vineyards as one of the most picturesque parts of the Danube Cycle Route.

Amazing bike & boat cruise offers

Combine the cycle tour with a visit of one of the cultural sites such as Austria’s biggest Benedictine Abbey "Stift Melk" and the famous ruin in Dürnstein, where English king Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned. After a stroll through the historic town of Krems, continue the journey towards Vienna, Austria's enchanting capital full of cultural delights. From Vienna to the border of Slovakia you cross the Donau-Auen national park. There are also great bike & boat cruise offers available, as well as the possibility to combine bike & train on many sections. You can be sure of excellent cycling conditions along the Danube Cycle Route. It was officially named a quality cycling route by ADFC, Germany’s most renowned cyclists’ organization. It received four of five possible stars.
